Young adults, ages 18-30, are welcome to a new support group offered by DBSA Somerset County in Bridgewater. Meetings are on Thursdays, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. at Richard Hall Community Mental Health Center, 500 North Bridge St, Bridgewater, NJ 08807. The group meets in the DROIS Meeting Room (#218) on the second floor. After checking in with reception, take the elevator to floor 2R and follow the posted signs to the room.

This meeting for young adults, which has been meeting since January 17, 2019, is an outgrowth of the young adult group that has long met at Morristown under our DBSA Morristown Area chapter. For more information about the new group meeting in Bridgewater, please contact Lizzie at 908-285-7963.

Our Flemington support group meetings will resume on Tuesday, January 2, 2018, and meet weekly on Tuesdays thereafter. The meetings will start at 6:30 PM and end at 8:00 PM. The group previously met on Fridays during the day; the last such meeting was November 24. The group will not meet during December 2017.

Our Flemington meeting will go on hiatus following the meeting to be held on Friday, November 24. Meetings will resume in January 2018 on Tuesday evenings, though the time of the meeting has not yet been determined. The meeting location will remain the same.

We are sorry to report that we have learned that the support group hosted by the Veterans Administration hospital in Lyons is no longer meeting. Please join us instead at our Bridgewater or Morristown meetings.

Our weekly meeting at the Getting Together Self Help Center in Flemington is returning as a daytime meeting this Friday, try November 4. The support group will meet weekly on Fridays from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The switch to meeting during the day provides an opportunity to attend our support group for members of the community who are unable to attend meetings in the evening, when our support groups generally hold their meetings. All in the community are welcome!

We are suspending our meetings at the Getting Together Self Help Center in Flemington as of tomorrow, September 27, 2016. Please check back in November when we anticipate reinstating our support group meetings.

The DBSA Somerset County chapter and the Department of Veterans Affairs Hospital in Lyons, NJ are pleased to bring a support group to the latter’s facilities. The support group, which is open to the community, will have its first meeting on Tuesday, September 20 from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM. Afterwards, the support group will continue to meet on the first and third Tuesdays of the month.

Update September 9, 2017: It has been learned that this group no longer meets.

Please join us on December 1 at the Getting Together Self Help Center to participate in our new group’s first meeting. The meeting will start at 6:30 PM and end at 8:00 PM. The center is off Route 31 in Flemington at 52 East Main St.

Our support group is affiliated with DBSA as a meeting of the Somerset County chapter, and we intend to form our own chapter in Hunterdon County as the group grows. Our meetings during Christmas and New Year’s weeks at Richard Hall will be on Thursday, December 26, 2013 and Thursday, January 2, 2014 due to the holidays. Our meeting next week will be on the usual day, Wednesday, December 18, and we will return to meeting on Wednesdays next year starting on January 8. All meetings are in the Drois Room on the second floor of Richard Hall, beginning at 7:00 PM as usual.

The support group is intended as an informal forum for education, support and socialization among patients diagnosed with depression, bipolar disorders or related mood disorders, their families and friends, and others interested in learning about the illness and offering support.

DBSA groups are strictly peer-led groups, with no professional involvement as part of regular group meetings. Participation in such groups has been proven to assist in coping with and recovering from mood disorders. Meetings are led by trained facilitators.
